Woking U14 Girls 21 - 18 Bracknell

14/3/08

Woking's teamwork won the day with enthusiasm from every player. Good passing and effort in defence concluded  the first quarter 10 - 2. One player down with Misha unfortunately spraining her ankle and missing the remainder of the game,

Woking was able to maintain the lead at 14-6 at the end of the second. Bracknell rebounded well and cut out several passes at the top of the key in the third and countered with an 8 - 1 response with the score at 14 - 12 going into the fourth. Good support from all the team, including Misha with the ice, shouting encouragement from the bench kept the momentum going for Woking in the fourth to tie the fourth quarter 6 - 6. Well done to all the team - an enjoyable win: Hannah, Amy, Rachel, Ellie P, Laura, Ellie H, Mia, Misha, Sophie and Katie.

Scorers: Hannah (8), Sophie (7), Amy (2), Rachel (2), Mia (2).

Well done Woking Gilrs, great effort by 8 players scoring consistently in each quarter to produce a fine performance to win 46-16. Limiting the number of turnovers to the lowest (4) in a game so far this season earned the team an opportunity to play their own game.

With good passing and movement in offence and a total of 21 rebounds and 10 steals Woking achieved a shooting percentage of 50% from the field. MVP was Jess with 17 points with other point scorers Zoe (11), Mia and Emily (6 each), Hayley (4), Hannah (2).

Blackhawks u14s girls edged out by 1 point.

Blackhawks U14 girls vs Kingston U12 Boys
(23/11/07

Woking U14 Girls fielded a reduced team of eight against Kingston in the Bracknell central venue league on Friday 23rd November 2007. The Woking Girls played an aggressive defensive game with 22 rebounds on their own backboards and with 10 steals provided for a good performance. This was countered, however, by giving away 23 turnovers to a very quick and elusive Kingston team who won over in the end.

The 10 point handicap for having two players less than a full squad of ten contributed to the overall loss of 33 - 22. Coach Keith Jarvis said; 'Despite having only eight players who hadn't all played together in a match before the girls showed that they can put in a good team performance.'

Following a check of the rules by Chairman Keith Farmer it was found that the girls should only have been deducted 4 points (2 points per player) at the half time.  Given the half time score would have only been 5 points to Kingston not 11 the outcome may have been different.

Woking point scorers were Mia Lloyd (4), Hannah Jarvis (4); Zoe Cooke (10); Hayley Norton (2).

MVP:  Zoe Cooke.

(9/11/07)

Woking girls set the scene with a good first quarter leading 14-2, followed by an 8-4 second and 10-6 third quarter. With 23 defensive and 9 offensive rebounds, Woking Girls put in a good performance using their height advantage with a shooting percentage of 65% from the field and a total of 32 rebounds. However, Woking Boys showed they can still reach the mark with 10 baskets and forcing several turnovers in the transition play, although Woking Girls rallied with 13 steals themselves. Enjoyable game with good effort by all players.

Thanks to Mitch Taylor for doing the stats.

Final Score 40-20 to the Woking Girls.

Points: Mia (6), Hannah (4), Jess (10), Ellie (2), Emily (18).

2006/7 season
Unbeaten record slips away....
Blackhawks U14 girls - Cobham U12  19-26
BCVL
(02/02/07)

In this battle of the 2 unbeaten sides, it was Cobham who just edged out the Blackhawk girls.

Cobham came out to play from the start and it took some time for Woking to wake up. Several turnovers due to poor passing put Woking down by 10 points at one part of the game.

Then the effort in defence kicked in with Woking chasing back to protect their basket, putting pressure on Cobham's offence, and they then played good defence for the rest of the game.

There were also some very good offensive plays from the Blackhawks including two consecutive plays with the "give 'n' go"  between Jessica Lawrence and Hannah Jarvis.

Woking came back though to make it 22 - 19 in the fourth quarter, down by 3. Unfortunately, tiredness set in over the last two minutes and a few lazy offensive passes by Woking allowed Cobham to turnover the ball to stretch their lead at the end of the game with the final score at 26 - 19.

Woking Coach Keith Jarvis commented: "Unfortunately, putting the blame on having to play on a different court doesn't count, our shooting let us down under the basket, despite winning the rebounds, with our tallest players not playing to their full height advantage."

MVP - Miriam Hargreaves for good defensive stance and help in offence. Becky Andrews also did well in her first game since the Autumn.

With our final U14s league game against Kingston B currently on the 23rd March 2007 before the semi final play offs we look forward to seeing every one at practice over the next few weeks. There is also may be an opportunity to play in another tournament at Chessington.

Teamwork is the name of the game....
Blackhawks U14 girls - Solent U12  38-13
BCVL
(15/12/06)

Team work was the name of the game against Solent.

Getting back in defence and passing in offence were the golden keys for Woking that opened many doors through the not so strong Solent team. Encouraging performances from the newer players Hayley and Laura, and also Mia, Christina and Jessica because of their use of the 'give and go' and 'motion' offences. It was good to see and well done everyone.

An entertaining game for both teams and enjoyed by all of those present.

Q1: 15-0 Q2: 8-7 Q3: 8-2 Q4: 7-4

 Blackhawks: Charlotte (10), Christina (6), Hannah (6), Jessica (8), Hayley (2), Zoe (4), Franscesca (2)

A game played with good spirit and energy from both sides....
Blackhawks U14 girls - Blackhawks U12  28-8
BCVL
(11/11/06)

The U14s girls playing against their U12s club colleagues showed that it wasn't just the height advantage that won the game. A solid start in the first quarter 12-0 was pacified by some strong pressure by the U12s on the point guard Mia Lloyd who did very well and played the whole game.

Best shooting performance cam from Miriam Hargreaves with 16 of the 28 points - well done!.

Other points scorers included Hannah Jarvis (4), Sam Betts (2), Corinne Heggie (2) (under 12s player), Franscesca Kapfer-Gill (2) with the rest of the team (R Andrews, L Cox, K Little) contributing with some good passing.

An entertaining game for both teams and enjoyed by all of those present.

Woking cast a spell...
Blackhawks U14 girls - Spelthorne 33-8
(13/10/06)

With a distinct height advantage the rebounding tally made up for a somewhat below par shooting percentage of 36% by Woking. With the number of turnovers exceeding the number of steals this was a missed opportunity to pay attention to passing that would have created assists galore and many more baskets. An enjoyable all round team performance.

Thanks to parents Janis Lawrence for doing the stats and Costa Tsingas helping with the table officiating.

Joint MVP:  Sam Betts / Franscesca Kapfer Gill.

Blackhawks: Jessica, Zoe, Mia, Kerri, Sam, Christina, Hannah,
Becky, Franscesca, Gaby

Win in first game!
Blackhawks U14 girls - Bracknell 19-17
(29/09/06)

Preventing Bracknell from scoring until the sixth minute of the first quarter,  Blackhawks U14s got off to a confident start. Building on this effort in the second quarter set the score at 11-6 to the Blackhawks at half time. Bracknell woke up in the 3rd quarter with an 8-5 return score getting back into the game with Blackhawks leading by two. Blackhawks held their own in the fourth quarter and won by two points - a well deserved win with very good contributions from the whole squad despite not having played together until this game.

MVP: Christina A

Blackhawks:
Jessica L (2), Zoe C (2), Mia L, Georgi M (2), Miriam H (2), Christina A (7), Kerri L (2), Shona P, Becky A, Franscesca K (2)
