04.12.09 - Blackhawks 34-28 Maidenhead Heat
Back on court for the first time since losing so badly to Camberley Heat, the Blackhawks were re-focussed and, after the three week break, re-energised and ready to get their CVL campaign back on track.
This week's opponents, Maidenhead, proved to be a tough side to beat when the two teams met back in October. This latest encounter would be no different.
Starting for Woking were captain, Alex Hedger, point guard, Rob Hollinshead, Chris Pegg, James Allen and Elliot Farmer. The tip went the Heat's way but a quick steal from James followed by a positive drive to the basket got his team off to a great start.
With the running-clock rule during the first 3 quarters it is difficult for the players to play themselves into the game, but valuable contributions from Elliot (both from the field and from the foul line) and Chris ended the first quarter with the Blackhawks ahead by 3, 7-4.
Quarter two saw Owen Sheppard, Tate Barber and 6'7" centre, Dom Sammut enter the game. Although another low scoring quarter there was some good ball movement which resulted in scoring opportunities for Hollinshead from 3-point range, Sheppard from the foul line, and Barber in the paint, Woking extending their lead at the half, 13-6.
James (J-Dizzle) Dean entered the game in the second half to step up the tempo and increase the offensive pressure on Maidenhead. His scything drives in to the heart of the Heat's zone drew the defence and provided Barber with time and space on the perimeter which he used to great effect hitting two 3s.
A good all-round performance saw scoring contributions from everyone. Leading the way was Tate Barber with 13 points, 2 steals, 1 block and 1 assist. Another notable performance came from James Allen with 6 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals. This unselfish, team performance gave the Blackhawks another win and they will now be looking to their next game against Merrow Heat, and the opportunity to go top of the league.
Blackhawks: Dom Sammut (2), Rob Hollinshead (3). Owen Shepherd (1), Chris Pegg (2), Alex Hedger (2), Tate Barber (13), James Allen (6), Elliott Farmer (3).
09.10.09 - Blackhawks 40- 30 Maidenhead Heat
Continuing on from the success of their first game, Blackhawks' U18s took on the Heat's Maidenhead squad at Bracknell.
Once again it was the pace of Woking's offensive transition which allowed them to quickly establish a lead and control the tempo of the game.
It was Dom Sammut and Chris Pegg who led the Blackhawks charge, scoring all 10 first quarter points for their side.
With the mandatory personnel changes going in to Q2, Seb Moulding and James Allen contributed to the points tally to end the period up by 4, at 14-10.
Q3 was all Blackhawks. Whilst adding 12 on the offensive end, including a 3-pointer from captain, Alex Hedger, Woking's defensive dominance prevented the Heat from adding a single point during the entire quarter.
Scoring contributions from Elliott Farmer, Pegg, Sammut, Moulding, Rob Hollinshead and Tate Barber, combined to bring the final score to 40-30 and a 2-0 record for the Blackhawks.
Blackhawks: Dom Sammut (14), Seb Moulding (4), Rob Hollinshead (3). Owen Shepherd, Chris Pegg (6), Alex Hedger (5), Tate Barber (4), James Allen (2), Elliott Farmer (2). (Heat awarded 4 points due to Woking's short bench).
25.09.09 - Blackhawks 31- 16 Camberley Heat
A solid performance from this newly formed u18 side in their first game of the season in the Heat's Bracknell CVL against Camberley Heat.
Craig Mathema opened Woking's account and was quickly followed by two baskets from point guard, James Dean. Q1 ended level at 6-6.
Q2 saw Dan Marshall doing what he loves to do, run the floor on the fast break. His efforts produced Blackhawks' only points of the quarter and gave his team the lead at 10-8.
It was Q3 that saw Woking really take control of the game. Dictating the pace on offence and applying pressure on defence allowed them to stretch their advantage. With guard, Jordan Tyler finding his range from beyond the arc hitting three 3s, and centre, Dom Sammut dominating the boards, the Blackhawks went on a 13-2 run to end the quarter up by 12 points.
Q4 was a comfortable period for Woking who were able to add to their points tally with further contributions from Sammut, and two 3-pointers from firstly, Dean, and then, Tyler who finished as top scorer with 12 points, to bring the final score to 31-16.
Blackhawks: Craig Mathema (2), Dom Sammut (6), James Dean (5), Dan Marshall (6), Jordan Tyler (12), Seb Moulding, Rob Hollinshead. Owen Shepherd, Chris Pegg, George Wilson.
