Surrey Youth Games - 2008

Woking Blackhawks supported the Woking team in the Surrey Youth Games again this year by providing the Coaching, hosting the trials, and providing most of the players!

Blackhawks Chairman, Keith Farmer, was again the main Sports Organiser for the Basketball event held at the Guildford Spectrum on 22nd June. Teaming up with Richard Mollard on the day they ensured that the event ran superbly to schedule, and the 9 hour event finished dead on time!

Plenty of other Blackhawks were also on hand to help make the Day a great success: Martin and Jenny Marshall, Tim Hearn and Sue Wright  on table Official duties, Andy Farmer collated all the results and displayed them on the Plasma screen, and Zoe Cooke was there to help as a volunteer on Results collection and Central Clock.

4 Surrey Borough teams competed in the Girls section and 10 of the 11 Boroughs competed in the Boys tournament.

Woking Girls won all their games in the Pool and were clear favourites for the Title, but against form they lost in the Semi-final to a re-vitalised Epsom & Ewell. The Girls Finished 3rd overall to take the Bronze Medal. The Woking players were: Sophie Hardman, Katie de-la-Rosa, Elle Hardman, Corrine Heggie, Laura Cox, Misha Blair, Mia-Jean Lloyd, Rachel Jervis, Cecile Marshall.  Coach was Keith Jarvis

Woking Boys suffered no such reversal of fortunes, and were unbeaten on the day, beating Spelthorne in the final to lift the Cup and take the Gold Medal.  Coach was Emeka Okorocha and his great team of Boys were:

Elliot Farmer, Alex Dean, Alex Ingram, James Allen, Caspar Lucas, Max Eggar, Morgan Little, Filippo DiPaola, James Morales, Lee Fleming.

Other Blackhawks competing on the day were: Blake Adamson for Elmbridge and Tate Barber for Guildford.

Surrey Youth Games - 2007

Woking Blackhawks supported the Woking team in the Surrey Youth Games this year by providing the Coaching, hosting the trials, and providing most of the players!

For the tournament itself on the 24th June at Guildford Spectrum,  Blackhawks provided all the Table Officials in Martin, Jenny and Dan Marshall, Koula Rakitzis and Tim Hearn. Andy Farmer mastered the button pushing to run the Central clock, and Head Coach Costas Rakitzis wore himself out as one of the only 2 experienced Referees who were there all day.  Chairman Keith Farmer joined forces with Richard Mollard (Development Director of Guildford Heat) to organise the overall event which is being praised as the "best yet".

Blackhawks players represented 4 of the 11 borough teams in Surrey. Special congratulations to Blake and Kyle Adamson who were part of the winning Elmbridge team.

Go Blackhawks!

RESULTS

Girls

The girls were unbeaten and earned second place overall. A great moral victory for the Woking Girls as they only missed out on the Gold due to points difference. The fact that they were playing every game with a 5 point penalty due to having less than 10 players makes the final result even more impressive.

Boys

The boys did not fair so well against some very strong opposition, losing 3 games and winning 1, to finish 10th overall.
