· Encourage your child to learn the rules and play within them.
· Teach your child to treat everyone equally and sensitively regardless of their gender, ethnic origin or cultural background.
· Insist on fair and disciplined play – do not tolerate foul play, cheating, foul, sexist or racist language
· Teach your child that effort and teamwork are as important as victory, so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment
· Turn defeat into victory by helping young people and vulnerable adults embrace skill improvement and good sportsmanship.
· Do not force an unwilling child to take part in Basketball
· Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding the good performances of all.
· Never punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes.
· Publicly accept officials’ judgements, in doing so encouraging your child to always play by the rules and to respect all Match Officials, never questioning their honesty
· Support your child’s involvement and help them to enjoy playing Basketball.
· Use correct and proper language at all times.
· As a spectator you must never enter the court.
· Remember that young people and vulnerable adults learn best by example.
· Recognise the importance of volunteer coaches and administrators – they give their time, energy and resources to provide Basketball provision for your child.
· Allow players and coaches to participate without interruption during practices and games
