Wildcats show how it's done

Blackhawks v Kingston Wildcats 21 - 49

Bracknell Summer CVL - 18th July 2008

A young team of mainly 14 year old Blackhawks took on the older Kingston team, and although they matches them for effort, the difference was in shooting accuracy. The Woking side managed just 23% (10 out of 44 attempts).

The only Woking player to shine on the day was James Allen, who earned a Bronze award as MVP with 20.0 mvp points. His accuracy was 67% and he also came out top scorer with 8 points.

Blackhawks: Farmer,  Hollinshead (4), Barber (1), Pegg, Gardener (4), Dean , Hedger (2), Little, Jones , Brook (2), Eggar, Allen(8)

U16 Boys feel the Heat

Blackhawks v Guildford Heat 33 - 54

Bracknell Summer CVL - 11th July 2008

Despite missing their big men, Blackhawks were well in this game until half-time.

In the second half, despite the efforts and instruction of stand-in Coach Francis Long, Blackhawks lost all their defensive format and played as individuals rather than a team in offence - they looked tired.

One positive to take from the game was the performance of Sam Brook, who did well on his debut.

Top Scorer was Marcos Zakakiotis with 12 points

Blackhawks: Farmer (2), Hollinshead (2), Barber (3), Pegg(2), Zakakiotis (12), Dean(2) , Lucas (4), Little, Jones (2), Brook (2), Eggar (2)

U16 Boys nearly caught Comet watching

Blackhawks v Cookham Comets 45 - 39

Bracknell Summer CVL - 4th July 2008

Against a much improved Comets team that they had beaten comfortably 3 weeks ago the U16 Blackhawks had to pull off a great 3rd quarter to maintain their momentum in the Summer CVL and go 3 and 1.

Quarters 1 and 2 were pretty even, with the Comets hustling the Blackhawks into unnecessary turnovers to be in front by 4 points at half time 21-25.

It was the Blackhawks fast-break play to the rescue in qtr 3 as Caspar Lucas put away his lay-ups to reverse the score and give his side a 6 point lead going into the last.

The last period was a tense affair as the Comets fought bravely to get back in the game, but Blackhawks held their nerve for the qtr to finish even 10-10 and give the Woking team the game 45-39.

MVP: Marcos Zakakiotis with 25.5 MVP points with 3 assists and 3 steals. He just pipped Caspar Lucas who got 24.5 MVP with an 88% field goal accuracy.

Top Scorer was Caspar Lucas with 14 points

Blackhawks: Adamson (8), Farmer, Hollinshead (4), Allen (2), Hedger (3), Barber (4), Pegg, Zakakiotis (10), Dean , Lucas (14), Sheppard.

U16 Boys foiled by refs ruling

Blackhawks v Kingston Wildcats 39 - 46

Bracknell Summer CVL - 27th June 2008

A refs decision at the end of the first quarter that allowed Kingston to keep their best players on in the second quarter, upset Coach Okorocha's game strategy and allowed Kingston to take a 9 point lead that was just too much to pull back in the second half for the young Blackhawks.  This ruling was subsequently found to be incorrect, but it was too late.

Hopefully the Summer CVL rules will be clarified to all teams and officials before the next round of games.

These 2 teams were fairly evenly matched and it was a great contest between the 2 unbeaten sides in the U16 Summer CVL and could have gone either way throughout. In a low scoring 1st quarter, neither team really found their rhythm and it ended  10-9  to the Blackhawks. The less said about the 2nd qtr the better, but the Blackhawks 2nd five worked hard and kept the score down as much as they could against the 2 key players from Kingston. Wildcats won the period 18-9 to give them a 27-19 advantage at half time.

Normal CVL rules resumed in the 3rd period and Blackhawks won the quarter 11-4 to narrow the Wildcats lead to just 1 point going in the last.

Despite their best efforts Blackhawks could not hold the 2 key players for Kingston and they continually found a path through the Woking defence to score. Woking's fast break game kept them in the contest, but in the end it was not enough. Wildcats won the period 15-9 to keep them unbeaten in the CVL so far.

This summer CVL is proving to be useful pre-season preparation for the new U16 squad and can only help them for the tough season ahead. The return fixture with Kingston in the last game should be a great contest.

MVP: Kyle Adamson with 23.0 MVP points from 8 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Kyle was joint Top Scorer with Rob Hollinshead who also scored 8 points.

Blackhawks: Adamson (8), Gardener, Hollinshead (8), Allen (3), Hedger (2), Barber (5), Eggar (4), Zakakiotis (5), Dean , Lucas (4), Sheppard.

Blackhawks v Guildford Heat 39 - 37

Bracknell Summer CVL - 20th June 2008

The U16 Blackhawks boys remain unbeaten in the Bracknell Heat CVL with an impressive, battling win against the Home team. This was a cracking game enjoyed by supporters of both sides.

The 2 teams were very evenly matched and it could have gone either way throughout. In a low scoring 1st quarter, neither team really found their rhythm and it ended  8-6 to the Heat.  The next 2 quarters were just as tight, with Guildford narrowly keeping the lead to go into the final period just one point ahead at 24 -23.

Stand-in Coach for the Blackhawks Dan Marshall must have said just the right things in the break as his team cam storming out in the 4th quarter. With Heat Coach Jon May applying the full court press, the Blackhawks played their fast-break game to great effect and matched the hustle of their opponents. Remarkably the Woking side only took the lead in the game in the very last minute through a Basket from Jordan Tyler.

Drama then unfolded as Blackhawks top-scorer Kyle Adamson was fouled out and Lead-giver Jordan Tyler left the game badly injured.  Fired up by this the set-back, Marcos Zakakiotis added a vital basket for the Woking side and they held on bravely in an exciting climax to the game.

A great contest, played fairly by both sides, and the return match in a few weeks time should be just as exciting.

MVP and Top Scorer: Kyle Adamson with 24.0 MVP points from 15 points. Great performance also from Marcos Zakakiotis with 16.7 MVP points and 11 points scored.

Blackhawks: Adamson (15), Gardener, Jones, Allen, Hedger, Barber (3), Tyler (4), Zakakiotis (11), Dean (2), Lucas (3), Sheppard (1)

Summer League starts with a win for U16 Boys

Blackhawks v Cookham Comets 36 - 23

Bracknell Summer CVL - 13th June 2008

This was the first game for the squad that will make up the under 16 boys for season 2008/9 and it was good to get a win. Despite some worrying moments during the middle of the game, the boys started and finished strongly.

MVP: Ryan Gardener with 13.0 MVP points. he was also joint top-scorer with Max Eggar who both scored 4 baskets.

Blackhawks: Adamson (2), Gardener (8), Hollinshead (4), Pegg (2), Farmer, Allen, Eggar (8), Tyler (4) , Jones (2), Barber (6), Hedger.

Old Match Reports - season 2007/8

Disappointing end to U16 A’s season

Blackhawks – Solent  42 – 46

The ‘A’s went to Bracknell on Friday to try to salvage something from a season which has turned out to be less fruitful than had been hoped.  In their way were Solent Kestrels, a team which presented the Hawks with few problems when the two sides met in the regular season tie which ended 55-16 in Woking’s favour.

This game was a much more competitive, and for the spectators at least, a more exciting match-up, as the Kestrels had obviously come with a game plan – to neutralise the threat from Woking’s high-scoring big men, Harrison Gamble and Chris Hatto.  The other problem for the ‘A’s was the fact that they had one player fail to show for this vital game.

The Blackhawks managed to finish the first two quarters trailing by just three points at 19-22.  However, the Bracknell CVL rules stipulate that a team must produce ten players for each game.  Five points are to be conceded for each player below that minimum. Therefore, with the five point penalty added to the scores, Solent had an eight point advantage as the third quarter got under way.

The ‘A’s responded by going on an 8-2 run to narrow Solent’s lead to just 2 points, and then ended the quarter with another gritty effort, outscoring the Kestrels by 6-4 to level the game at 33-33.

Again in Q4 the Hawks started where they’d left off and took the lead after another run during which they scored eight points without reply.  Solent did well to mount a counter attack which took them to a 3 point lead with one minute remaining.  Unfortunately, it was a failure to convert from the free throw line, first Hatto missing 2 and then James Dean missing 2 with just one second on the clock, which ended Blackhawks' disappointing season.

Top scorer for the Blackhawks was Chris Hatto with 12 points.

MVP went to Harrison Gamble with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists 4 steals and 1 block.

Q1: 11-10;   Q2: 8-12;   Q3: 14-6;   Q4: 9-13 (+5 points to Solent)

Blackhawks: C Hatto (12), J Dean (4), D Marshall (8), E Lewry (2), H Gamble (11),

R Saund (5), M Zakakiotis, E Ainsbury, L Msipha.

Understrength Hawks ‘Francly’ failed to perform

Woking Blackhawks – Lanfranc 52 – 80

Due to injuries to some key players, and the absence of Captain, Chris Hatto, Coach Costas Rakitzis had to field a much weakened and undersized side for this important tie against Lanfranc, at Hinchley Wood on Sunday.

A fairly steady start from Woking saw them keep in touch with Lanfranc in the first quarter, with point guard, James Dean, leading the scoring with 9 points.  The Croydon side then began to pressure every Woking offence and managed to force several turnovers, allowing them to end the period with an 8 point lead.

Quarter two was where most of the damage was done to the Blackhawks’ fading hopes of finishing in one of the top two play-off spots.  Time after time Woking’s offence broke down through lapses in concentration and some uncharacteristic poor passing.  This gave Lanfranc opportunities to pick up easy points, and they opened a lead which would prove to be decisive.  Although the Hawks fought hard in the final two quarters it was not nearly sufficient to bring them back in to contention.

MVP went to Harrison Gamble with 9 points, 22 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 5 blocks.

Q1: 14-22;   Q2: 6-21;   Q3: 18-22;   Q4: 14-15.

Blackhawks: J Dean (24), D Marshall (7), H Gamble (9), L Msipha (2), R Saund (7), A Jaffari Tasmalu (3),E Ainsbury, T Shephard, K Adamson, .

Final outing secures 2nd place at Bracknell

Woking Blackhawks ‘A’– Bracknell ‘Heat’ 47 – 28

The Blackhawks’ U16 A side secured 2nd place by winning their last regular season game in the Bracknell CVL against Bracknell Heat.

The Hawks’ starting five put on an almost clinical display in the first quarter as they opened with an unanswered 10 point run, James Dean scoring with a penetrating drive from the top of the key within 5 seconds of the tip-off.  The 1st quarter ended 15-3 to Woking.

With a fresh five for both teams starting quarter 2, Bracknell managed to reduce Woking’s lead to just 6, outscoring the Hawks by 6-12.  Allowing the Heat too many second chance opportunities by failing to pull down the rebounds was the main leak in the Blackhawks’ defence.

With the 3rd quarter being narrowly won by the Blackhawks, the game ended as it had begun.  The Hawks re-established control in the 4th and again dominated play to outscore their opponents by 16-3, and produce a final score of 47-28.

MVP once again went to Chris Hatto with 16 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

 Q1: 15-3;   Q2: 6-12;   Q3: 10-8;   Q4: 16-3.

 Blackhawks: C Hatto (16), J Dean (8), D Marshall, E Lewry (1), H Gamble (6),

M Zakakiotis (4),  L Msipha (4), R Saund (8), T Ndongwe, E Ainsbury.

Hawks’ ‘Big Men’ rule the roost

 Blackhawks – Mole Valley 'Phoenix' 95 – 62

It was a dominating performance today, in the Surrey CVL, by Woking’s two big men, centre, Harrison Gamble, and power forward, Chris Hatto.  The new and improved rebounding machine that is Harrison Gamble was in no mood to be out-jumped at either end of the court.  Meeting the ball at basket height ensured possession and well timed outlet passes on defence, and a succession of put-back buckets on offence.

Hatto once again impressed with his unremitting determination to put points on the score sheet.  Looking for every opportunity to drive to the basket, and fighting to grasp every loose ball within reach, he led the Blackhawks in scoring yet again, netting 24 points.

With the scores at the end of the 1st and 2nd quarters showing a healthy lead, 24-6 and 49-24 respectively, Coach Costas once again took the opportunity to give his entire bench some court time.  Tanya Ndongwe made the most of his minutes with 10 points, 2 assists and 1 block, and Earl Ainsbury contributed 9 points with some excellent individual moves to beat the Phoenix defence.  Another notable performance off the bench came from Dan Marshall who added 4 points and made a great defensive contribution with 5 steals.

till with just one loss, 3rd place Blackhawks must now focus on their final Surrey game on Sunday 13th April against 2nd place Lanfranc, a ‘must win’ if they are to ensure the all important No.2 seeding for the play-offs.  There is, of course, still time for London Towers to ‘trip up’ with two games left to play, one against Lanfranc (come on Lanfranc!).

MVP went to Chris Hatto with 24 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal.

 Q1: 24-6;   Q2: 25-18;   Q3: 28-17;   Q4: 18-21.

 Blackhawks: C Hatto (24), J Dean (5), D Marshall (4),R.Saund (11) E Lewry (5), E Ainsbury (9), H Gamble (18), M Zakakiotis (6), T Ndongwe (10), A Jaffari Tasmalu, L Msipha (3).

Young Hawks Keep Title Hopes Alive

 Blackhawks – ACS Cobham  93 – 62

The under 16s were in action on Sunday morning in the Surrey CVL against ACS Cobham. Needing only wins now through to the end of the season meant a solid performance here was necessary to keep the Blackhawks in contention for the top spot.

Cobham fielded a strong team but the result was never really in doubt.  From the tip-off Woking were able to build a comfortable lead, finishing the first quarter up by 7, at 20-13.  Managing to maintain a healthy buffer throughout the game allowed Coach Costas the luxury of trying out a new play which proved to be very effective.  This new ‘weapon’ will be an asset for the Hawks as they take the step up to the U18 National League next season.

Top scorer for the Blackhawks was Chris Hatto with 28 points.  However, Coach Costas will also have been encouraged by the efforts from the rest of his players.  Another tireless defensive performance from Ed Lewry saw him contribute 4 points, make 4 steals and 4 assists.  Dan Marshall’s outside shooting helped him to a 17 point total, and driving penetrations from James Dean added another 14 points.  With 19 points coming from the bench, and 6 players earning MVP awards, this was a great all-round team performance.

MVP went to Chris Hatto with 28 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

Q1: 20-13;   Q2: 22-13;   Q3: 21-13;   Q4: 30-23

Blackhawks: C Hatto (28), J Dean  (14), D Marshall (17), E Lewry (4), K Adamson (4), H Gamble (11), A Jaffari Tasmalu (1), M Zakakiotis (5), T Ndongwe (9).

Back to ‘Finishing School’ for U16s

Blackhawks – London Towers  68 - 73    (24-Feb-08)

Another crucial top of the table clash in the Surrey league saw No.1 Blackhawks up against No.2 London Towers.  Both teams were undefeated but Woking held the top spot through superior points difference.

A good start by Woking resulted in an early lead over a physical Towers’ side.  With James Dean running the offence from the point the Blackhawks were able to find their way to the basket with relative ease.  However, as the first quarter came to an end with Woking leading 19-13, an uncharacteristic failing was beginning to show in the Blackhawks’ offence that was eventually to decide the outcome of this game.

Quarter two saw the Towers fighting back to make it a one point ball game, but it was the Blackhawks’ poor finishing that allowed that to happen.  Time after time scoring opportunities were missed through poor shot selection and loss of concentration going to the basket.  Easy lay-ups were missed by guards and forwards resulting in scoring possessions for the Towers.  At this level, and at this stage in the season, committing 23 turnovers is not going to win a ball game.

Although the game was tied in the fourth quarter at 60-60, on this occasion the Blackhawks were just not able to find in themselves what was needed to come away with the win.

On a positive note, there were some individual performances that deserve a mention.  Ed Lewry did a great job on defence before being fouled out of the game (somehow managing at one point to foul the ball handler from about 20 feet away!).  And a good job also by Roshan Saund, top-scoring for the Blackhawks with 27 points.

At the end of the game one thing kept coming back to me: Coach Costas in a training session trying to impress on his players, “OUTSIDE FEW”.  Hopefully, that lesson has now been well and truly learnt!

MVP went to Harrison Gamble with 6 points, 15 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks.

 Q1: 19-13;   Q2: 38-37;   Q3: 52-56;   Q4: 68-73

 Blackhawks: C Hatto (17), J Dean  (8), D Marshall (5), E Lewry (1), R Saund (27), K Adamson (2), H Gamble (6), A Jaffari Tasmalu (2), E Ainsbury, L Msipha.

Kingston double-header for ‘As’

A double-header this weekend for the U16 As, against two very different Kingston sides, produced some very entertaining basketball that would see the Blackhawks forced to dig deep in the Surrey CVL tie to bring home a brace of wins.

Blackhawks A – Kingston A  74 – 25

Friday night at Bracknell Leisure Centre was the setting for the first meeting.  The game began with a lacklustre first quarter display which ended with the Hawks down by 2, scoring just 9 points.  The Blackhawks botched scoring opportunities as the starting five failed to connect on offence.

Fortunately, following a stern talk from coach Costas at the interval, quarter two saw the Hawks take control through much improved communication, passing and finishing.  For the remainder of the game Kingston found themselves totally dominated at both ends of the court, managing to score only 9 points, while the Blackhawks stormed to victory.

MVP was James Dean with 20 points, 1 rebound, 3 assists, 4 steals.

Q1: 9-11;   Q2: 24-1;   Q3: 20-6;   Q4: 19-2

Blackhawks A:  J Dean (20); L Msipha (2); R Saund (18); H Gamble (8); C Hatto (8); D Marshall (10); E Lewry (4); T Ndongwe (6); E Ainsbury.

Blackhawks A – Kingston A  70 – 65

A greatly strengthened Kingston arrived to take on the Blackhawks at Hinchley Wood on Sunday in the Surrey CVL.  Woking started where they left off on Friday, with a dominating first quarter that must have had the Kingston players thinking, “here we go again”.

Fast-paced, well executed offensive plays gave the Hawks an early advantage, with Chris Hatto leading the first quarter scoring netting an impressive 12 points.  Hatto and Harrison Gamble dominated the boards at both ends helping to take the Blackhawks to a 13 point lead at the end of the first quarter.

Kingston opened the scoring in the second quarter displaying a renewed determination which seemed to catch the Blackhawks by surprise.  This, combined with refereeing decisions going against them, seemed to cause the Hawks to lose their usual discipline.  They began trying to force the play and made some poor decisions which resulted in turnovers.  Kingston won this, and also the third quarter, to take a 4 point lead in to the final period.

Early in the fourth quarter, Kingston increased their lead to 7 points.  Chris Hatto once again stepped-up for his team and repeatedly battled his way through a tough Kingston full-court defence to re-take the lead at 58-57.  Two baskets in quick succession from Roshan Saund took the lead to 7 with a minute to go and although Kingston added 2 points from the foul line, the game ended with Blackhawks the winners by 5.

MVP was Chris Hatto with 29 points, 13 rebound, 3 assists, 2 steals, 3 blocks.

Q1: 9-11;   Q2: 24-1;   Q3: 20-6;   Q4: 19-2

Blackhawks A:  J Dean (4); R Saund (19); H Gamble (6); C Hatto (29); D Marshall (2); E Lewry (2); M Zakakiotis (8); E Ainsbury. L Msipha; A Jaffari.

Chris has finally got it ‘Pegged’

 Blackhawks B – Cookham Comets   73 – 41

(Friendly)

This weekend saw the Blackhawks playing host to a newly formed club, Cookham Comets, from Maidenhead.  This game was organised as a friendly to allow both the Comets’ inexperienced u16s squad and the Blackhawks’ u16 Bs a chance to gain some valuable extra court time.

Although only established less than six months ago, the Comets presented a well disciplined and creative side which looked confident on the court.  It was the Comets who opened the scoring with two early baskets from O Horne and C Flemming.  Following a 14-0 run by the Hawks, including three 3s by Lloyd Msipha, the Comets managed to respond with a run of their own, ending the first quarter up by six at 14-20.

The greater experience of the young Blackhawks began to show in the second quarter as they outscored the Comets 23-10.  A revelation for the Hawks was the newly found confidence displayed by Chris Pegg.  Chris scored six consecutive points including a rebound put-back and a rebound with a fast break lob to Harrison Gamble who made a behind-the-head pass to a trailing Chris who calmly made the pull-up jump shot.

Quarter three was tied at 16-16 with some great baskets from Roshan Saund for the Hawks, and O Horne for the Comets.  However, the game ended with the Blackhawks outscoring the Comets by 20-8.  Again it was Pegg who continued to impress as top scorer for the Hawks in the final quarter with another series of great baskets and off-the ball movement.

Congratulations to the Cookham Comets who put on a great display of basketball.  Woking Blackhawks Basketball Club wishes your organisation and players every success, and looks forward to an opportunity of a return match some time in the future.

Top scorers for the Blackhawks were Chris Pegg and Roshan Saund, both with 14 points.

Q1: 14-12;   Q2: 23-10;   Q3: 16-16;   Q4: 20-8

 Blackhawks B:  R Hollinshead (1); C Pegg 14); L Msipha (9); A Hedger (6); J Tyler (2);

R Saund (14); H Gamble (4); T Sheppard (4); R Gardener (6); K Adamson (13).

Blackhawks A – Spelthorne Atoms   36 – 50   (25-Jan-08)

This top of the table clash in the Bracknell CVL was never going to be anything other than a hard-fought battle.  Although a disappointing result, the Blackhawks, fielding an under-strength side due to injuries, gave their all against a very physical, and at times overly aggressive, Spelthorne.

Both teams played solid defence in the first quarter and baskets were traded as neither side managed to dominate the game.  With less than a minute of the quarter remaining, Harrison Gamble drove the baseline for a beautifully executed up-and-under lay-up to tie the game at 8-8.  However, two baskets in quick succession from the Atoms gave them a 4 point lead at the buzzer.

The Atoms opened-up an 8 point lead early in the second quarter, and Coach Costas called a much needed time-out to re-organise his players.  Whatever was said during the time-out certainly produced the desired outcome as the Hawks went on an 8-0 run to once again tie the game at 20-20.  Unfortunately, and again in the last minute of the quarter, poor passing by the Hawks resulted in turnovers which gave Spelthorne the opportunity to re-establish their lead at 20-24.

It was more of the same in quarter three as the Atoms moved ahead only to see the Hawks close the gap.  The Blackhawks’ captain, Chris Hatto, had been playing with torn ligaments in his left foot, but his brave efforts came to an end in the fourth minute of the period as he took the hard decision to sub himself out of the game.  Despite this disappointment the Hawks managed to close to within one point at 30-31, but yet again, as the clock ran down, the Atoms were able to increase their advantage to 30-35.

Clearly missing the presence of Chris Hatto, the Blackhawks were losing the battle under the baskets as the sheer size and physical play of the Atoms’ ‘big men’ proved hard to match.  However, a warning given at half-time by the referee to the Spelthorne coach, that aggressive play would not be tolerated, apparently failed to filter along the Atoms’ bench.

An unfortunate incident in the last minute of the game saw James Dean fouled as he attempted a lay-up.  The offending Spelthorne player then proceeded to push Dean as he turned to go to the foul line.  As the referee called a technical foul and ejected the Spelthorne player from the game, three young Hawks jumped off the bench in a badly timed display of support for their team mate.  This infringement resulted in each of the three also receiving a technical foul.  The result of this was that Spelthorne went to the foul line to take four free-throws and were awarded possession.  A regrettable end to what could have been a close and exciting finish to this important game.

MVP was Harrison Gamble with 8 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 6 blocks.

 Q1: 8-12;   Q2: 12-12;   Q3: 10-11;   Q4: 6-15

Good weekend for the u16s

Blackhawks A – Reigate Falcons  102 – 22   (20-Jan-08)

The second match of the weekend for the U16s – this time in the Surrey CVL at Hinchley Wood – saw the in-form side up against bottom of the table Reigate Falcons.  Even with captain, Chris Hatto, confined to the bench through injury, the Falcons were always going to be struggling to keep pace with the Hawks in full flight.

After an uncharacteristically ‘scrappy’ start, normal service was resumed as the Hawks out-played their opponents in every department.  Head coach, Costas Rakitzis, had asked his team to, “push all the way” and, "not to let-up”, and he got exactly that.  By the end of the first quarter the Blackhawks were ahead 21-2.

With the Falcons' offence failing to apply any real pressure, the young Hawks’ trademark fast break was once again executed to devastating effect.  Time after time the early outlet pass fell in to the path of a waiting Saund, Dean, Marshall or Jaffari.  They were literally queuing to take their turn for the easy lay-up.  With runs of 14-0 and 18-0, the second quarter ended 53-4.

After the break the Falcons displayed a renewed determination and, to their credit, showed that even in the face of such overwhelming opposition they were not ready to concede the game just yet, scoring 18 of their 22 points total in the last two quarters.

With the possibility of another century to aim for, the Blackhawks weren’t going to ease-off.  Saund, Zakakiotis and Ainsbury pushed the pace in the final quarter to take the final score to 102-22.

MVP was Roshan Saund, leading the scoring for the Hawks with 27 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal.

Q1: 21-2;   Q2: 32-2;   Q3: 23-10;   Q4: 26-8

Blackhawks A:  J Dean (15); D Marshall (8); E Lewry (10); R Saund (27);

M Zakakiotis (11); E Ainsbury (7); H Gamble (16); L Msipha (6); A Jaffari Tasmalu (2).

Blackhawks A – Kingston B  86 – 32   (18-Jan-08)

From the tip-off it was clear that the Blackhawks were back on top form.  A solid defence produced forced shots and turnovers which allowed the Hawks to go on an 8-0 run.  With Chris and Tanya combining well at both ends of the court, the first quarter ended 16-6.

The second quarter started with a confident offensive display from the Hawks which saw them out-score Kingston by a ratio of 2-1.  Impressively, and an indication of the strength of the squad, nine players had contributed to the half-time score of 38-17.

By the third quarter the Blackhawks were in full flow.  Their superior transition play and sustained pace produced fast breaks with ease.  Harrison and Roshan notched-up sixteen points between them, and with Lloyd and James joining in, the quarter ended 58-23.

Tonight, Woking showed that basketball truly is a team sport, with totally unselfish performances from all players.  Tanya produced his best performance of the season so far scoring 8 points, 6 rebounds and 1 assist.  Another great effort from Chris with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block.  By the final buzzer, all ten Blackhawks had contributed to the points total and a final score of 86-32.

MVP was Harrison Gamble with 25 points, and 10 rebounds.

Q1: 16-6;   Q2: 22-11;   Q3: 20-6;   Q4: 28-9

Blackhawks A: C Hatto (10); J Dean (5); D Marshall (6); E Lewry (4); R Saund (14);

M Zakakiotis (4); E Ainsbury (4); H Gamble (25); L Msipha (6); T Ndongwe (8).

Mixed bag for the Blackhawks u16s at Bracknell

Blackhawks A – ACS Cobham  34 – 31   (11-Jan-08)

Probably a typical post holiday return to the match court as early attempts from both sides failed to find the basket.  The supporters had to wait for almost three minutes for the scoring to begin.

After conceding the first points to Cobham, the Blackhawks’ captain and coach for the game, Chris Hatto, lead the way for his team with the side’s first two points.  The next three points for the Hawks coming from James Dean, two from a field goal and one from the foul line, gave them the lead which they were to retain for the remainder of the game.

Although not the dominating display we’ve come to expect, Woking’s under-16 team did put together some nice offensive moves, which worked well to maintain a healthy lead and eventually secure the win.

With tougher games ahead in both the Bracknell and Surrey leagues the young Hawks will need to re-focus if they are to achieve their ultimate goal of winning both titles.

MVP was Chris Hatto with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Chris also managed to maintain his 100% coaching record. Well done!

Q1: 14-7;   Q2: 6-4;   Q3: 8-7;   Q4: 6-8

Blackhawks A: C Hatto (8), J Dean  (3), D Marshall (5), E Lewry (2), R Saund (6), M Zakakiotis (8), E Ainsbury (2), H Gamble, L Msipha.

Blackhawks B – Feltham Warriors  16 – 48   (11-Jan-08)

It was always going to be difficult against a team that fields a few national league players but the Blackhawks stood their ground and at times they produced some delightful moments.

Rob Hollinshead having dispatched the defensive pressure of his opponent, threaded a great pass through to Chris Pegg who duly scored to the delight of the supporters.

Kyle Adamson made himself a nuisance under the baskets and Caspar Luces, an under-14 player, had the supporters on their feet when he scored with two perfectly executed moves under the baskets.

Q1: 0-12;   Q2: 6-10;   Q3: 4-20;   Q4: 6-6

Blackhawks A: A Jaffari-Tasmalu (1), R Hollinshead (1), C Pegg (5), Jordan, O Sheppard, R Gardner, S Anand, C Lucas (4), K Adamson (5), Alex.

Now this is basketball!

Blackhawks A - Guildford Heat  115 - 26  (2-Dec-07)

As one supporter put it "This was a great exhibition of basketball".

The young hawks started rather tentatively but they soon found their rhythm and exploded into a feast of creative and disciplined basketball all at the same time.

Coach Costas Rakitzis was cautious but delighted with the performance. "It is great to see a bunch of young lads playing with such gusto and commitment. Despite being comfortable winners, they chased the century and made the best of the opportunity to run their plays and try a new defensive set. But let's not run away with ourselves; there are difficult games ahead and we need maintain our focus and commitment" he said.

MVP was Harrison Gamble with 18 rebounds, 22 points and a spectacular 62.0 MVP points! Chris Hatto had a great game too (17 rebounds, 8 assists, 22 points and a hugely respectable 55.5 MVP points).

Dan Marshall, James Dean, Ed Lewry and Earl Ainsbury all made it into the honours.

Q1: 32-6;   Q2: 30-12;   Q3: 21-6;   Q4: 32-2

Great opportunity for some inter-Club rivalry!

Blackhawks A - Blackhawks B  60 - 20  (23-Nov-07)

Having entered two teams in the u16 League at Bracknell, it was inevitable that the B team would have to face the might of the A team at some point. The result of this inter-Club encounter was never in doubt but the occasion provided a great opportunity for both teams to run out and practice their offensive and defensive plays.

MVP for the A's was their captain Chris Hatto (who did a great job at coaching them too) with 19 points, 10 rebounds and an impressive 41.5 MVP points.

MVP for the B's was the ever-improving Amin Jaffari-Tasmalu with 9 points and 10.3 MVP points.

Blackhawks A: C Hatto (19), H Gamble (6), J Dean  (6), D Marshall (6), E Lewry (2), R Saund (12), L Msipha (6), T Ndongwe (3).

Blackhawks B: A Jaffari-Tasmalu  (9), Tom Bucknall (2), E Ainsbury (7), R Hollinshead, C Pegg, O Sheppard, R Gardener (1), S Anand (2).

NEXT GAME: Sunday 2 December vs The Heat in the Surrey CVL.

Blackhawks A - Waverley Warriors  83 - 31  (9-Nov-07)

For the first 5 minutes and with the score at 5-5, it looked like the Blackhawks would continue where they left off last Friday against Feltham - nervous and below par. But following a time-out and a substitution, that was all about to change.

Harrison Gamble and Chris Hatto were in no mood to let the Warriors get any rebounds and the introduction of James Dean kick-started the young hawks into action to finish the quarter 20-9.

Woking were now in the groove and scored 17 points before Waverley had a chance to respond. The plays were now being called by Dean and coming off , Hatto and Gamble ruled under the baskets and with a 41-13 half-time score, the Blackhawks had little to worry about.

In the she second half, Woking had the rare opportunity to practice different defensive systems and Dan Marshall decided it was time to take a few lay-ups scoring a personal best 17 points in a game.

But this under-16 team had couple of Club records in their sight. With 29 rebounds in a game, Harrison Gamble smashed the record previously held by Josh Hearn (24) while the whole team crashed the boards 84 times (another Club record) with captain Chris Hatto contributing 23 rebounds of his own.

"The players should be very proud of the basketball they played and should use this performance as a springboard for better things to come later in the season" said coach Costas Rakitzis.

MVP was the unstoppable Chris Hatto with 22 points, 23 rebounds, 5 assists and a very impressive 56.2 MVP points.

Great performance by Gamble (29 rebounds, 5 steals and 40.5 MVP points).

James Dean, Dan Marshall and Ed Lewry also impressed with 36.0, 28.5 and 23.8 MVP points respectively.

Blackhawks: C Hatto (22), H Gamble (11), J Dean  (11), D Marshall (17), E Lewry (2), R Saund (8), T Bucknall (4), M Zakakiotis (4), A Jaffari-Tasmalu (4).

A's snatch victory from the jaws of defeat

Blackhawks A - Feltham  53 - 51  (9-Nov-07)

Match report to follow.

---------------  2006/7 --------------

A's let 2nd Cup slip through their fingers

Blackhawks A - Feltham 65-68  (11-May-07)

Good effort but ended up losing a game we should have won. Never mind, we'll win it next season!

A's let Cup slip through their fingers

Blackhawks A - Sunbury Sonics 69-71  (29-Apr-07)

It was summed up perfectly by one of the players in the change rooms after the game: "They wanted it more than we did".

It was a tight and exciting final at Chessington but the Blackhawks didn't look comfortable at any point during the game and finally paid the price.

MVP was Chris Hatto (14 points, 8 rebounds and 32.0 MVP points). Josh Hearn had a great game too (10 points, 11 rebounds, 31.5 MVP points) as did Matt Blair with 14 points, 7 rebound and 31.0 MVP points.

Q1: 13-17;   Q2: 20-18;   Q3: 21-23;   Q4: 15-13.

Blackhawks A: E Ainsbury (5), J Hearn (10), R Halliday (9), M Blair (14), C Hatto (14), C Cox, D Marshall, Y Noh Che, T Bucknall, G Parker (5), S Cane (10), R Saund (2).

A's split the Atoms and are on their way to the FINAL!

Blackhawks A - Spelthorne Atoms 51-35  (27-Apr-07)

Positive anger and team spirit was the wind beneath the wings of this team of under-16 Blackhawks which is flying high enough already! The young hawks get better with every game and today they proved they have the skill, fitness and mental strength to beat a national league team like the Atoms.

Ainsbury, Cane, Bucknall, Blair and Halliday got off to a good start and at the end of the 1st period, Woking were up 13-9.

The 2nd period was more of a chess game as both teams measured each other up. The half-time score (21-19) raised the expectations for a mouth-watering second half.

The third quarter was a bit of an anti-climax, however, as both teams made sure their defensive formations were not breached. The atmosphere was tense at the end of this period as the score stood at 28-28. Something had to give...

Or rather something had to explode! There is little any team can do to stop the likes of Blair, Ainsbury, Parker, Hearn and Halliday when they get in the zone. In one of the most storming performances of the season, these youngsters took the Atoms apart with the precision of a master surgeon. 23-7 in one quarter against a national league side, isn't the kind of score that just happens. It is the result of dedication, commitment and togetherness throughout the season, which a lot of happy parents and supporters had the pleasure to witness this evening.

MVP was Matt Blair (20 points, 8 rebounds and 35.0 MVP points). Josh Hearn had a super game too (21.5 MVP points) as did Ryan Halliday, Chris Hatto and Craig Cox.

WE ARE IN THE FINAL OF THE BRACKNELL LEAGUE ON MAY 11th!

Q1: 13-9;   Q2: 8-10;   Q3: 7-9;   Q4: 23-7.

Blackhawks A: E Ainsbury (1), J Hearn (6), R Halliday (10), M Blair (20), C Hatto (3), C Cox (5), D Marshall, Y Noh Che, T Bucknall, G Parker (4), S Cane (2), E Lewry.

A's impress as they top the 2007 Bracknell League!

Blackhawks A - Bracknell 65-29  (23-Mar-07)

Even if you were a neutral spectator, you would have been impressed by the finesse, teamwork and sheer defensive prowess of these young Blackhawks.

Powered by the likes of Hatto, Halliday, Cox and Blair both in defence and offence, this happy wagon rolled to an impressive victory over the much weaker Bracknell side to claim top spot in the Bracknell League.

The highlight of the evening was the surprise inclusion of Anabelle Hardiman and Mitch Taylor who stepped in for the missing Garry Parker and Sam Cane. The girls put in credible performances to the delight of our supporters.

An encouraging debut by Alex Mills who joined the Club recently.

MVP was Matt Blair (18 points, 10 rebounds and 41.0 MVP points). Ryan Halliday had a super game too with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 37.5 MVP points. Chris  Hatto found his form and grabbed 11 rebounds, 5 steals and 22.2 MVP points. Craig (Mr Reliable) Cox had a good game with 21.0 MVP points.

READY FOR THE PLAY-OFFS LADS?!

Q1: 13-4;   Q2: 21-13;   Q3: 16-0;   Q4: 15-12.

Blackhawks A: E Ainsbury (4), A Hardiman (4), J Hearn (6), R Halliday (12), M Taylor, M Blair (18), C Hatto (9), A Mills (1), C Cox (6), M Saunders (5).

It's all good experience for the B's

Blackhawks B - Spelthorne B 23-59  (23-Mar-07)

It was never going to be an easy game for the B's as they faced superior opposition.

Coach Rick Lansdell was in reflective mood after the game. "We could have rebounded better both in defence and offence and there is definitely room for improvement in the shooting department", he said.

Difficult to talk about MVP's in this game as no one got more than 7.0 MVP points. The highlight must be the three 3-pointers scored by Karim Hadeq but giving away 5 turnovers cost him the MVP award.

Q1: 5-13;   Q2: 5-18;   Q3: 5-17;   Q4: 8-11.

Blackhawks B: M Scott (4), L Msipha, E Lewry (2), R Saund (1), K Hadeq (9),  Y Che Noh, Leo Viera-Franco, A Robson (2), P Legg, D Marshall (1), T Bucknall (4).

Heat-resistant A's book their place in the Final!

Blackhawks A - Guildford Heat 76-61  (4-Mar-07)

Many pre-judged this semi-final expecting an easy win for Woking. Well, Guildford tried their best to spoil the script as the Blackhawks took their time to get into a rhythm and finally run out winners by 15 points.

After the Parker-Halliday show in the first period, when the two of them scored 14 of the 19 points, the Blackhawks went to sleep and lost the 2nd period 13-24.

A good half-time talk was necessary. Blair, Cane and Halliday took over and the revival was now evident as the young hawks won the 3rd period 20-16.

But it was not until the 4th that the quality of this under-16 squad shone through. Blair, Halliday, Hearn, Parker and Cane all came alive to finally impose their game and finish the quarter strongly 24-12.

MVP was Matt Blair (17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals and 41.5 MVP points). Ryan Halliday had a super game too with 19 points, 15 rebounds, 8 steals and 37.0 MVP points. Garry Parker also impressed scoring 14 points and amassing 27.0 MVP points. Josh Hearn had a good game with 20.8 MVP points.

Q1: 19-9;   Q2: 13-24;   Q3: 20-16;   Q4: 24-12.

Blackhawks A: E Ainsbury (8), G Parker (14), J Hearn (6), R Halliday (19), S Cane (8), M Blair (17), C Hatto (4), R Saund, E Lewry, D Marshall.

A's ground the Rockets to WIN the Surrey League!

Blackhawks A - Epsom Rockets 90-48  (11-Feb-07)

The outcome of this encounter was never in doubt but even with Blair and Hatto missing due to illness and holidays, the young hawks put on one of their best displays this season to maintain their unbeaten record and run out winners of the U16 Surrey Central Venue League.

After a thoroughly impressive display by Ainsbury, Parker, Saund, Hearn and Halliday during the first period, the Blackhawks were 36-11 ahead and the game was all but won.

For the remainder of the game, coach Costas Rakitzis was in a position to ask his players to try out new plays and tactics. He was not disappointed. Baskets came from everywhere as the guards netted their shots and the forwards claimed 39 rebounds and sunk 55% of their attempts at the baskets.

MVP was Josh Hearn (11 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 44.0 MVP points). Ryan Halliday had a super game too with 16 points, 16 rebounds and 43.0 MVP points. Garry Parker was lethal scoring 23 points and amassing 34.5 MVP points. Roshan Saund and Yusuf Che Noh made a great contribution scoring 10 and 14 points respectively.

Credit to the Epsom Rockets who never gave up and fought bravely to the final whistle.

Q1: 36-11;   Q2: 18-10;   Q3: 16-18;   Q4: 20-9.

Blackhawks A: E Ainsbury (9), G Parker (23), Y Che Noh (14), J Hearn (11), R Saund (10), M Saunders, D Marshall (3), T Bucknall (4), R Halliday (16).

A's show great character to snatch victory!

Blackhawks A - Windsor 30-28  (2-Feb-07)

After a shocking first half (6-16) normal people would have written off the Blackhawks. But they would not have counted on the fighting spirit of these young hawks who came back from an 8-20 deficit to beat the League leaders by 2 points.

Windsor, Spelthorne and the Blackhawks are now joint top, which is the perfect setting for mouth-watering play-offs.

Another very good performance by Matt Blair who pulled down 9 rebounds and scored 11 points. An encouraging performance by Sam Cane who made three assists and scored 4 points.

Q1: 4-4;   Q2: 2-12;   Q3: 10-6;   Q4: 14-6.

Blackhawks A: E Ainsbury, G Parker (8), S Cane (4), C Cox (4), C Hatto, J Hearn (2), M Blair (11), M Saunders (1), D Marshall, T Bucknall.

B's go down to Bracknell but performances get better

Blackhawks B - Bracknell 28-40  (2-Feb-07)

For three periods the Blackhawks matched their opponents basket for basket but it all went wrong in the fourth when Bracknell pulled away 8-16 to win it comfortably.

Had the Blackhawks sunk half of the 22 missed free throws we could have had a very different game...

A very encouraging performance by 14-year old Pete Legg who was MVP with 24.0 MVP points. Ed Lewry put in another spirited performance to earn 18.0 MVP points.

Q1: 5-5;   Q2: 7-11;   Q3: 8-8;   Q4: 8-16.

Blackhawks B: A Jafari-Tasmalu, L Msipha (2), E Lewry (6), R Saund (2), K Hadeq (1),  Y Che Noh (5), H Ismail, Leo Viera-Franco, A Robson (4), P Legg (8).

They just wanted this more than we did

Blackhawks A - Spelthorne A  30-41  (05-Jan-07)

Despite a good performance in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, mistakes and lack of passion in the 1st and 4th quarters were the key reasons for losing a game we might have won if Spelthorne had not fielded national league players.

Perhaps we should ask what is the point of a 'development' league if some teams will not subscribe to the spirit of it all?

Reasonable performances by Matt Blair and Craig Cox.

Q1: 11-18;   Q2: 11-6;   Q3: 6-3;   Q4: 2-14.

Blackhawks B: E Ainsbury (4), S Cane (1), C Hatto (3), R Halliday (2), G Parker (5), J Hearn (4), E Lewry, C Cox (5), M Saunders, M Blair (6).

It would have been easier if we had four 6'2 forwards...

Blackhawks B - Feltham  20-52  (15-Dec-06)

Despite a good first half and superb rebounding by Yusuf Che Noh and Edmund Lewry, Feltham  were just too tall for the Blackhawks.

This was very evident when the Feltham 'bigs' had a rest in Q2 when the young hawks managed to keep the score level at 10 a-piece.

Good performance by Yusuf Che Noh (10 rebounds and 6 points and Roshan Saund (8 points).

Q1: 4-10;   Q2: 10-10;   Q3: 0-17;   Q4: 6-15.

Blackhawks B: D Marshall (2), A Jafari-Tasmalu, L Msipha, E Lewry (2), R Saund (8), T Bucknall (2), Y Che Noh (6), H Ismail.

Blackhawks take the Heat in their stride

Blackhawks A - Guildford Heat  63-50  (10-Dec-06)

It looked like it was going to be a close game after the first period finished 17-15 to Woking but the Blackhawks proved too strong in the end to keep their unbeaten record in the Surrey Central Venue League.

It was the Halliday-Blair show in the first period that kept the Blackhawks in the game but Garry Parker provided the missing spark to set the second period alight as the young hawks flew straight into the jet stream winning the period emphatically (27-5).

Coach Rakitzis was happy to let his more inexperienced hawks lead the pack in the third but as the Heat started catching up, it was time for normal service to be restored.

Exceptional performance by Matt Blair (10 rebounds, 7 steals, 21 points and 51.0 MVP points).  Good performances from Ryan Halliday (9 rebounds, 19 points and 23.0 MVP points) and Garry Parker (12 points and 20.5 MVP points).

Q1: 17-15;   Q2: 27-5;   Q3: 4-18;   Q4: 15-12.

Blackhawks A: E Ainsbury, S Cane (2), C Hatto (3), R Halliday (19), A Wainwright (2), G Parker (12), J Hearn, T Bucknall, C Cox (2), M Saunders (2), M Blair (21).

It's a walk in the park for under-strength A's

Blackhawks A - Waverley  85-23  (3-Dec-06)

There was never any doubt about the outcome of this game. The question was how well would the under-strength A's perform against their inexperienced opponents. They did well enough but coach Rakitzis is not easily pleased. "It was great to see the first team players execute well some plays on the court. The defence was good too. Today, we brought along a number of B-team players who needed court time. Hopefully they have learnt some lessons and use these to improve their performance in the next game. The A's have a couple of tricky games coming up against the Heat and the Sonics, and that is where we will show how good our preparation has been." Rakitzis said.

The starting five had little trouble winning the first period 20-4 mainly with baskets from the rampant Chris Hatto. Those played in the second period did a great job too, especially Ryan Halliday who was in the right mood today dominating the baskets at both ends and scoring freely.

It was time for everyone to contribute now and the second half was simply a training session.

Exceptional performance by Ryan Halliday (15 rebounds, 4 steals, 22 points and 51.5 MVP points). Great performance from Chris Hatto (91% field goal accuracy, 20 points and 41.5.0 MVP points). Good performance from Josh Hearn (4 blocks and 28.0 MVP points).

Blackhawks A: E Ainsbury (5), S Cane (2), C Hatto (20), R Halliday (22), A Wainwright (5), G Parker (5), J Hearn (8), D Marshall, E Lewry (2), R Saund (6), T Bucknall (5), Y Che Noh (4).

A's brush aside Kingston but not without a scare

Blackhawks A - Kingston  44-21  (1-Dec-06)

It was a game that the Blackhawks had to win if they were to keep their hopes for winning this league alive. And win they did!

The starting five had little trouble winning the first period 8-0 but it should have been at least double that if shots from under the basket dropped for them.

In the second period, coach Rakitzis must have thought his young hawks were in for a difficult time when his second five finished their time on the court 9 points down posting a half-time score 12-13.

In the third period, there were no restrictions and both coaches had the opportunity to field their best teams. The Blackhawks led by the irrepressible Matt Blair, came into their own, dominated and outclassed their opponents in every department, winning the period 17-2.

The nerves had settled by now and everyone was given the opportunity to contribute. The baskets kept coming and the final score made happy reading for players, coach and supporters alike.

Great performance by Matt Blair (11 rebounds, 4 steals, 15 points and 41.5 MVP points). Good performances also from Sam Cane (20.0 MVP points) and Josh Hearn (20.5 MVP points).

Blackhawks A: E Ainsbury (4), S Cane (7), H Ismail, C Hatto (2), M Blair (15), R Halliday (4), A Wainwright, M Saunders (4)., G Parker (2), J Hearn (6).

Brave performance by the B's against huge odds

Blackhawks B - Spelthorne A  8-84  (1-Dec-06)

It was never going to be easy for the B's who could not hope to match their bigger and far more  experienced opponents.

There were times when the defence worked well but the number of turnovers (23) was a large part of the B's undoing.

Best player for the B's today was Ed Lewry (10.2 MVP points).

Blackhawks A: D Marshall, A Robson, A Jafari-Tasmalu, K Hadeq, L Msipha, E Lewry (2), R Saund (3), T Bucknall (3), Y Che Noh, R Alexis.

A's take big step towards Surrey League Title

Blackhawks A - Lanfranc  75-60  (12-Nov-06)

It may be early days yet but this has got to be a major step towards the u16 Surrey League title as the Blackhawks kept their concentration throughout a hard-fought game to beat Lanfranc by 15 points.

Led by the unassuming but irrepressible Matt Blair and the commanding Chris Hatto, the fired-up Blackhawks finished the 1st period strong 19-7.

Lanfranc steadied their ship in the 2nd but the Blackhawks were in no mood to relinquish their hard-earned lead and posted a satisfying 37-27 half-time score.

In the third period, Woking maintained the attacking prowess but also stepped up the defensive pressure thus adding a further 7 points to their lead which at the end of the period had stretched to 17 points.

In the 4th, as expected, Lanfranc came out all guns blazing but they had no answer to Matt Blair. The well-drilled Blackhawks knew what to do to contain Lanfranc's MVP (M. Craig) and finished the game victorious.

Best performances came from the awesome Matt Blair (6 steals, 15 rebounds, 32 points and 52.0 MVP points), Sam Cane (12 points and 27.3 MVP points) and Earl Ainsbury (10 points and 20.3 MVP points).

Blackhawks A: E Ainsbury (10), S Cane (12), C Cox (7), C Hatto (8), M Blair (32), R Halliday (4), A Wainwright (1), A Anees, M Saunders (1), D Marshall.

Camberley no match for the Blackhawks A

Blackhawks A - Camberley  64-14  (3-Nov-06)

Even though Camberley fielded over-age and very tall players, Woking hardly got out of second gear to win this very one-sided game by 50 points at Bracknell.

Best performances came from Matt Blair (7 steals, 11 points and 32.0 MVP points), Chris Hatto (12 points and 25.5 MVP points), Sam Cane (8 points and 22.5 MVP points) and Ryan Halliday (8 points and 20.5 MVP points).

Blackhawks A: E Ainsbury (4), G Parker (1), S Cane (8), C Cox (6), C Hatto (12), J Hearn (8), M Blair (11), R Halliday (8), A Wainwright (4), A Anees (2).

Kingston too strong for brave B's

Blackhawks B - Kingston  19-60  (3-Nov-06)

Another one-sided game but this time in Kingston's favour. The young hawks are learning as they go and look forward to a win later in the season.

Best performance came from Edmund Lewry (7.7 MVP points).

Blackhawks B: C Butler (1), D Marshall (2), A Robson, A Jafari-Tasmalu (1), K Hadeq (5), E Lewry (1), R Saund, T Bucknall (4), U Che Noh, A Wood (1), H Ismail (4).

Blackhawks tame the Wildcats

Blackhawks - Kingston   60-44  (15-Oct-06)

As nerves gave way and the confidence grew by the minute, it was no surprise the mighty Blackhawks overpowered their opponents in the first game of the season in the Surrey CVL.

Woking led by Chris Hatto and Matt Blair took the game to Kingston and finished the 1st quarter 18-12.

In the second, the Blackhawks having realised the Wildcats might be easier pray than they originally thought, they began to drive at the basket and executed the zone defence to great effect. The half-time score (37-17) was very satisfying and the young hawks were ready for more.

Although the offence did not work as well as it could, some solid rebounding by Josh Hearn ensured the lead was extended to 50-26.

In the fourth, it was time for everyone to have their time on the court and none of the Blackhawks let the team down. A solid performance saw them cruising to a comfortable 60-44 win. Well done the lads!

Best performances came from Matt Blair (22 points scored, 8 steals and a total of 40.5 MVP points) and Josh Hearn (17 rebounds and 25.2 MVP points).

Blackhawks A: E Ainsbury, G Parker, S Cane (8), C Cox (2), C Hatto (9), J Hearn (10), M Blair (22), R Halliday (8), A Wainwright, D Marshall (1).
